Love Does, by Bob Goff, is a collection of personal stories with a spiritual lesson. Bob takes you through parts of his life journey and gives a compelling witness to the unchanging character of God. Each chapter begins with his humble confession “I used to think…” and progresses to how living an abundant life of love taught him “…but now I know…”. Love Does seeks to motivate us to begin loving in the way that exclaims, “…but now I know!”
Nothing is better than a good story except for a good story by a good story-teller; and Bob Goff is a good story-teller with great stories to tell. Love Does has 31 chapters and is a perfect addition to any monthly study. I found myself reading three or four in a row before I had to force myself to set the book down so I could enjoy more later! The opening to each chapter resonated with my spirit because I feel as if I am constantly learning and needing to say, “I used to think…, but now I know…” Life is an endless cycle of growing and learning, which Bob implores us to explore with an adventurers heart, bringing people along and loving every person we have the opportunity to touch.
His stories range from comical and light hearted to dramatic and soul-touching. I can’t give this book a higher recommendation. This book is on my shelf next to Mere Christianity, Blue Like Jazz, Radical, Crazy Love; and yes, the Holy Bible. (*That is a pretty kick butt bookshelf, huh?)
